Trucking companies spar over tariff exclusion request

American Trucking Associations (ATA) requested an exemption from the Section 301 tariffs imposed on auto parts imported from China on Aug. 15. The request, and its opponents, highlights one of the major issues at the heart of the trade conflict with China.

ATA asserts that the tariffs would mean that it would not be able to meet the demand for trucks manufactured in the U.S. ATA stated, “The product is unavailable in the quantities demanded because domestic manufacturing is insufficient to meet total demand for chassis in the United States.”
