Protecting internal whistleblowers

In recent years, global regulators have taken a renewed interest in protecting whistleblowers. Both the European Union whistleblower protection directive and the U.S. Justice Department’s 2020 guidance make clear that effectiveness goes beyond simply having a hotline. Along with ISO 37002, these initiatives aim to improve the efficacy of reporting channels and protect whistleblowers. To better protect employees who report, compliance leaders should consider the following three steps.
