Welcome, Costa Rica! It’s fun to watch the international growth of compliance programs, including the many regulatory regimes that place value on them. Costa Rica is the latest to join the growing ranks of countries that have either established requirements for compliance programs or formally provided for benefits for organizations that establish them.
The factors that drive countries to introduce requirements for compliance programs can vary. In some cases, a specific scandal (or series of scandals), often followed by public outcry, has necessitated that a government address issues that compliance programs can help with. In other cases, a government simply sees the benefits to its economy or other areas through the addition of rules requiring compliance programs.
