The EU Whistleblower Protection Directive

Robert Bond (robert.bond@bristows.com) is Partner & Notary Public at Bristows LLP in London, UK.

The recently published European Union (EU) Whistleblower Protection Directive is due to come into force in 2021 in order to harmonize the procedures for whistleblowing and the protection for whistleblowers. Currently less than half of the EU member states have comprehensive whistleblower legislation, and the increase in corporate scandals and examples of retaliation against whistleblowers in the EU has forced legislators to implement appropriate law.
