Data protection is about human dignity as much as privacy

Technology has always been the shield as well as the sword, and data privacy laws have always been playing catch-up with the technology. Artificial intelligence (AI) and the increasing use of algorithmic analysis to interpret data creates a challenge to data protection principles, particularly where the analytical outcomes may affect human rights and even more so where there is no human intervention. Indeed, the principles of protection of personal data are as much about respect for human dignity and privacy rights as they are about protection of the personal information itself.
