1 minute read

Ethical artificial intelligence (AI) adheres to defined ethical guidelines regarding fundamental values, including such things as individual rights, privacy, and nondiscrimination. Ethical AI places fundamental importance on ethical considerations in determining legitimate and illegitimate uses of AI.[1] This includes ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability in AI systems. Ethical AI principles prevent biases in AI algorithms that could lead to unequal treatment of patients based on race, gender, or socioeconomic status. For instance, an AI system trained predominantly on data from one demographic (e.g., urban area compared to rural area) may perform poorly or unfairly when applied to another, potentially leading to misdiagnoses or inappropriate treatments.
