◆ Facet joint interventions, including injections, will be added to the prior authorization process if a provision in the proposed 2023 outpatient prospective payment system rule announced July 15 is finalized.[1] CMS already requires hospitals to get prior authorization from Medicare administrative contractors for seven outpatient procedures: cervical fusion with disc removal, implanted spinal neurostimulators, blepharoplasty, botulinum toxin injections, panniculectomy, rhinoplasty and vein ablation. Facet joint injections would join them in March.
