Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) are nonfinancial factors, a framework organizations use as part of their business strategy and operations to build sustainable profit while accounting for ESG issues. ESG has been part of healthcare organizations’ foundation for a long time; ESG provides a new method and lens for capturing what organizations have already been doing. The breadth of the various ESG topics in healthcare goes beyond the size allocated for this column; it is highly dependent on the organization’s specific industry, maturity, and location.
