California passes bill banning harmful substances in cosmetics

On Sept. 30, California Governor Gavin Newsome signed into law a bill[1] that would ban 24 different harmful substances in cosmetics. The ban will be in effect starting Jan. 1, 2025. The bill, AB 2762,[2] bans more than trace amounts of certain harmful substances such as formaldehyde, mercury, diethylhexyl phthalate and methylene glycol.
