The Suffolk County Superior Court in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts granted final approval Jan. 20 of a settlement of $18.4 million over allegations that Mass General Brigham and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute disclosed website users’ personally identifiable information to third parties without their knowledge or consent.[1]
Under the settlement agreement, the defendants will pay $18.4 million to cover payment to class members, attorneys’ fees and other administrative costs related to the litigation.[2] Class members who submitted valid claims prior to Dec. 15, 2021, may receive up to $100 depending on the number of claimants. On Sept. 24, 2021, the settlement agreement was granted preliminary approval. The final approval hearing was held Jan. 18.
