◆ A former special agent with the HHS Office of Inspector General was sentenced to 97 months in prison in connection with his role in an operation involving oxycodone distribution, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida said Jan. 25.[1] Alberico Ahias Crespo was convicted at trial of witness tampering, conspiracy to commit witness tampering and conspiracy to obstruct justice. His conviction grew out of his work on the South Florida Health Care Fraud Strike Force. “Crespo used his position as an agent to protect and advance a multi-year oxycodone trafficking scheme and impede related federal health care fraud investigations, including investigations in which Crespo himself was involved,” the U.S. attorney’s office said.
