The U.S. Department of Justice announced another guilty plea in the case involving bribery and kickbacks at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.[1] According to the Department of Justice and court documents, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation’s former director of procurement colluded with a contractor in order to receive monetary benefits and other items of value.
The scheme involved the former director providing sensitive information to the contractor, such as sample bid proposals, labor pricing estimates, as well as adjusting the terms of the contract to better fit with the contractor’s abilities and personnel. The former director received cash and offers for employment in return for the help. Both the former director and the contractor “took steps to conceal the scheme … , including using separate, dedicated cellular telephones and e-mail accounts and communicating through encrypted software.”
