Durable medical equipment (DME) is a risk concern for any DME supplier. In fact, there is specific compliance program guidance for DME provided by the Office of Inspector General. The Office of Inspector General’s Compliance Program Guidance for the Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supply Industry provides both general and specific guidance as to various internal anti-fraud and abuse controls suppliers can voluntarily implement. The guidance identifies and discusses compliance risk areas that are susceptible to fraud and abuse that compliance professionals can monitor.
