US sanctions force United Kingdom to ban Huawei from 5G networks

The May 15 amendments to the foreign-produced direct product rule[1] isolated Huawei Technologies’ supply chain such that the United Kingdom thought it wise to ban the company from its 5G networks. The U.K. had stated in January that Huawei would be isolated from critical infrastructure and networks associated with national security but would still be allowed to sell to noncritical and nonsensitive markets.[2] The most recent statement[3] reversed that decision and effectively banned Huawei from the British 5G market July 14.
