Study shows electronic health record data limited in mortality and readmission outcomes

In late June, The Joint Commission announced a study, published in Medical Care, which evaluates whether electronic health records can eliminate the need for costly and time-consuming manual data abstraction of patient outcomes. According to The Joint Commission press release, “Retooling paper-based measures to electronic format for the reporting of performance measures can help reduce hospitals’ reporting burden.”
