SACHRP to Meet October 19-20, 2022
The HHS Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Human Research Protections (SACHRP) will hold its final meeting of the year later this month, with a light agenda that includes an unusual second look at recommendations SACHRP already approved. According to a notice in the Sept. 29 Federal Register, the meeting will be held in person and via webcast. On Oct. 19, members will discuss “the impact of social media use by research subjects,” picking up a topic from their July gathering. Afterward, SACHRP is scheduled to review and consider possibly amending “previously approved SACHRP recommendations on the ethical and regulatory considerations for the use of artificial intelligence in human subjects research.”
In July, SACHRP approved “Considerations for [institutional review board] Review of Research Involving Artificial Intelligence,” which were submitted to the secretary on July 25; they are available online. Oct. 20 “is reserved for upcoming agenda items,” according to the notice. Closer to the meeting dates, more details and an updated agenda will be posted at http://www.dhhs.gov/ohrp/sachrp-committee/meetings/index.html. SACHRP typically meets in March, July and October each year.
