Patient Privacy Court Case: June 2022

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California granted preliminary approval on April 20, 2022, of a proposed $5 million settlement agreement to resolve a data breach class-action suit alleging that Solara Medical Supplies, a direct-to-consumer medical supplier, failed to secure the protected health information (PHI) and personal identifying information (PII) of 114,000 individuals. Under the settlement agreement,[1] the defendant will pay more than $5 million to cover payments to class members, with up to $100 in cash payment per class member.
