◆ CMS has issued a new MLN Matters (SE18013) reminding hospitals that intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) simulation and planning are bundled when provided in outpatient departments regardless of when stimulation is provided. The HHS Office of Inspector General last month reported that hospitals nationally were overpaid up to $25 million for bundling IMRT planning from 2013 to 2015 (RMC 8/27/18, p. 1). According to CMS, “When IMRT is furnished to beneficiaries in a hospital outpatient department that is paid under the hospital OPPS [outpatient prospective payment system], hospitals must remember that CPT codes 77014, 77280, 77285, 77290, 77295, 77306 through 77321, 77331, and 77370 are included in the Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) payment for CPT code 77301 (IMRT planning).” Visit https://tinyurl.com/y7dg35m9.
