◆ In an Oct. 12 Medicare Program Integrity Transmittal (835), CMS informs its contractors that certain kinds of communication don’t qualify as one-on-one education for providers. The transmittal is directed at Medicare administrative contractors, which conduct Targeted Probe and Educate (TPE), CMS’s national medical review strategy; recovery audit contractors; and supplemental medical review contractors. “One-on-one education does not include: Educational articles impacting nationwide issues; Responses to inquiries on claims that were not medically reviewed; General training sessions; POE education activities; Speaking at society meetings; Writing articles in society newsletters regarding new or significantly revised LCDs,” according to the transmittal. Specifically, CMS added, letters don’t count as one-on-one education under TPE. Visit .
