The HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) has updated its Work Plan.[1] OIG is turning its attention to Medicaid inpatient hospital claims with severe malnutrition after years of reviewing Medicare malnutrition claims and will audit Medicare payments for inpatient claims with mechanical ventilation. There are also items on identifying denied claims in Medicare Advantage encounter data, among other things.

For the first time in months, CMS has added new items to its list of proposed reviews for recovery audit contractors. They are enteral nutrition therapy and parenteral nutrition therapy,[2] both for medical necessity and documentation requirements.
