News Briefs: March 21, 2022

San Francisco physician John Pierce agreed to pay $18,846 in a civil monetary penalty settlement over Provider Relief Fund (PRF) money, the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) said on its website.[1] OIG alleged Pierce received a PRF payment April 10, 2020, after attesting April 16 in the PRF portal that he was eligible for the money “because, among other things, he provides or provided after January 31, 2020, diagnoses, testing, or care for individuals with possible or actual cases of COVID-19. However, Dr. Pierce did not provide diagnoses, testing, or care for any individuals after January 31, 2020.”
