In new guidance on the removal of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) from the Medicare inpatient-only (IPO) list, CMS gave examples of appropriate admissions, including Part A one-midnight stays, and the documentation required. Removing TKA from the IPO list “does not mean that all TKAs must be performed on a hospital outpatient/observation basis nor does it mean that there is a presumption about where TKAs are performed,” according to MLN Matters SE19002. CMS added that it’s not targeting “TKA procedures for patient status review now that they are not on” the IPO list. Visit https://go.cms.gov/2RE2Spj.
