IRF monitoring during COVID-19

A critical element of any effective compliance program is monitoring. As a service to our members, each month this column focuses on potential monitors for specific business lines.

COVID-19 has forced compliance professionals across the nation to take steps to protect themselves while still monitoring for compliance. Many compliance professional now work remotely to prevent contracting the contagious virus. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued several regulatory waivers to ease the burden on providers and allow them to focus on patient care. This month I will focus on inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) compliance monitoring during the COVID-19 pandemic and the effect of some CMS waivers.
