Many interesting lessons and storylines can be gleaned from the recent charges against Rochester Drug Cooperative (RDC) and its former CEO and chief compliance officer (CCO). RDC is one of the ten largest wholesale distributors of pharmaceuticals and healthcare products in the US. The actions of the Department of Justice represent the first case against a distributor in connection with the opioid crisis, charging that RDC and its senior executives ignored numerous red flags in the ordering patterns of its pharmacy customers in pursuit of maximizing sales.
